Voice and Dictation Class Reading to Children | University of the Ozarks

Voice and Diction Class Reading to Children 5 hours ago • April 16, 2021 By Larry Isch Posted in About University of the Ozarks students in professor Rebecca Bailey’s voice and diction class are putting their skills and training to use while also entertaining area children. The students are reading children’s books to their young audience members via Zoom each Thursday for three consecutive weeks in April. The reading project is in partnership with the Johnson County Public Library (JCPL). Bailey, assistant professor of theatre, said the students are using techniques from Vocal Viewpoints by acting theorist Anne Bogart. “It’s exciting to watch them learn the techniques and then implement them in the reading of the stories online,” Bailey said. “With the pandemic, all readings are over Zoom, but we’ve had several children tune in each week. We have a variety of stories from different cultures and for a variety of ages.”

Articulation of women s rage : Slow Burn, Together and its haunting of women dancers

Review: Slow Burn, Together, choreographed by Emma Fishwick. Emma Fishwick and Performing Lines for Perth Festival. It goes against the very core of Slow Burn, Together to respond to it so quickly in print. In the program, choreographer Emma Fishwick quotes art historian Ernst Gombrich: “the reading of a picture needs a very long time.” Slow Burn, Together encourages a dream-like reflection on our relationship with time, especially history and progress, how it shapes us, how we work with it and against it. Moving through the cavernous stage of Perth’s Her Majesty’s Theatre on foot, on wheels, on their knees, on a swing an ensemble of 15 women create an ever-changing series of pictures. Evoking pathways to the past or into an unknown future, the dancers shift between movement and stillness, horizontal and vertical, witnessing and being witnessed.
