You get a raise in your wages – somebody else has to pay. Covid is a danger to older people, but flu seems to have disappeared. There are more doctors on TV than ever, but bizarrely people still keep getting sick.
But the news that the Irish Medical Organisation has secured agreement with the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive to create 84 new Public Health Consultant posts is good news for just about everybody – not least the IMO itself.

The Public Health Committee of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) is to ballot members on a proposed agreement to solve a 20-year dispute.

The Public Health Committee of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has agreed to ballot members on a proposed agreement to resolve a 20-year dispute over consultant grade posts in Public Health.
The Minister for Health announced that an agreement was reached with the IMO on a reformed public health model in Ireland which will be progressed on a phased basis and will include the establishment of the grade Consultant in Public Health Medicine to provide the strategic leadership for the reformed Public Health Model.

AN AGREEMENT HAS been reached between the Department of Health and the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) to create 84 consultant grade posts in public health.
It’s understood that the IMO will recommend the agreement to their members who will ballot on it in the coming weeks.
The agreement has come after the IMO in January accepted an invitation from the Department of Health for talks to resolve an ongoing dispute over the extension of consultant status to public health.
