An elderly Auckland woman is facing a desperate fight for her home after her daughter allegedly tricked her into signing away her ownership of the property. The woman's case is one of thousands that social workers and Age Concern staff say they are seeing, where older people are taken advantage of by those they love and trust. They want more people to be on the lookout for elder abuse, and say the law needs strengthening to protect people who are vulnerable targets. "My daughter decided that I'm old now, and [to] throw me in a rest home, sign my house over to her," 72-year-old Julie told Checkpoint.

Malden Police arrest Everett man in fatal December shooting

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Chief of Police Kevin Molis have confirmed that Sifeddine Rogadi, 20, of Everett, was arrested Jan. 12 on charges of murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by discharge of a firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm, and possession of ammunition in connection with the fatal shooting of Jaden Brito-White, 18, of Malden, that occurred on Dec. 29, 2020.
He was expected to arraigned in Malden District Court.
On Dec. 29, at approximately 7:03 p.m., Malden Police responded to a report of a shooting that had occurred on Bowdoin Street. Upon arrival, officers located Brito-White suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

All my life I had been conscious of an ancestral connection to Shetland, but like many Australians of my generation, I had only a few fragments to assemble the jigsaw that was my Scottish heritage.
