The month of February was officially recognized as Black History Month in Canada by the House of Commons December 1995 following a motion introduced by Dr. Augustine.
Black History Month means different things to different people. To me, it is about including myself and reflecting on the history and accomplishments of Black People in Canada and around the world. It also serves as an opportunity to learn something new about Black History.

Canadians are often unaware that Black people were once enslaved in Canada. They are also often unaware that those who fought enslavement pioneered what is now a diversified and somewhat inclusive Canada (there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion across all sectors).
