It is plain to see why Arsenal are struggling: they are the most ill-disciplined team in the Premier League and that speaks to a deeper malaise. There have been six red cards since Mikel Arteta was appointed almost a year ago - twice as many as any other club.
It is not just red cards that Arsenal top the table for, either. According to Opta no team has more than the 63 cautions they have received which is one more than Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United and more than twice as many as Liverpool. It points to a lack of control.
