Q: I read your column every Friday in the Daily Republic and enjoy your answers and advice. It looks like it’s my turn to ask one of you.
My mother recently passed away and left me in charge of settling her estate. It is to be divided equally between my brother and me. In the estate is her home here in Fairfield, which is paid for. My brother and I have decided that we are going to keep the house. My concern is the fact that I have an excellent credit rating and he has a credit rating that is well below average and would rate as a high risk. He also owes several creditors and I’m not sure they will be paid without a collection service being involved. Therefore, I feel I need to be careful when it comes to the title on the home. Q: I live in a subdivision with extensive CC&Rs. A homeowner directly across the street from my house continually parks his boat right on his front lawn and it drives me nuts. The CC&Rs are very clear that you can’t even park a boat or recreational vehicle where it is visible from the street and you can’t park anything on your lawn. Yes, I’ve tried to talk to the jerk but he’s renting the house and just says the owner doesn’t mind. I don’t care if the owner minds. I mind! I’m just not sure what to do about it.
