From the second it starts, Reading alt-pop star SG Lewisâ debut album is a throwback to the carefree, pre-social media years of flares, mirrorballs and classic disco headiness. You know: when partying was simple and didnât have to be documented on Instagram. With an impressive guestlist of collaborators to boot, âtimesâ instantly transports you onto a packed, sweaty dancefloor.
Though itâs been a long time in the making (Lewisâ comparatively-chilled three-EP project was released in 2016), nowâs the perfect time for the 26-year-old to step out from the producer shadows (he was behind Dua Lipaâs pulsing âHallucinateâ, collaborated with Alunageorge and produced Victoria Monét and Khalidâs glistening âExperienceâ) and into the spotlight as a solo artist.

SG Lewis was the perfect poster boy, new kid on the block in 2020. His hit single Chemicals was a lockdown-breaking soundtrack-making, Radio-1-baiting, funk electro-pop one man superstar tune which took over every homesâ Alexa last year; bringing some much-needed light to our boring abodes.
Now in 2021, Samuel George Lewis unveils his debut album Times , after a slew of loveable collaborative singles. Whilst this LP doesnât break any new grounds or shatter any glass ceilings, it does bring is a beautiful blend of house, electro-pop and funk, culminating to astoundingly enjoyable heights and sparkly moments that would make even the biggest metal-music-elitist bright-eyed and giddy.
