Stark County residents can expect fewer businesses requiring them to wear masks or socially distance starting next month.
Places like Jerzee s All-American Sports Grille, Gervasi Vineyard and Powerhouse Gym said they will not enforce mask-wearing or social distancing requirements after state health orders end on June 2.
But not every business will be dropping the requirements.
Giant Eagle has plans to ask customers to wear masks
Giant Eagle, the supermarket chain with more than 410 locations in five states including several in Stark County, said it has no plans to stop requiring customers and employees to wear masks. At Giant Eagle, the health and wellbeing of our Team Members and guests remains our top priority. As we actively evaluate the shifts in state and CDC guidance, we will continue to require anyone working or shopping in our stores to wear a mask or face covering, the company based in the Pittsburgh area said in a statement.
CANTON – Last year, restaurants had to survive stay-at-home orders and having their dining rooms shut down for more than two months due to the pandemic.
And when the state allowed them to reopen, they had to weather mandated curfews, capacity restrictions and a loss of business due to patrons concerned about the risks of contracting COVID while dining out.
Now, with many adults vaccinated for COVID, customers are flocking back to area dining rooms and outdoor restaurant patios, increasing business above even 2019 levels.
But the rising demand for the dine-in experience presents restaurant owners and managers with a different challenge: They re having a difficult time recruiting servers, cooks, supervisors and other workers to handle the rising number of customers. One Stark County restaurant even closed this week, citing in part a lack of employees.
CANTON – Some big changes are coming to the downtown dining scene.
A new restaurant is opening. A longtime eatery is relocating. And two other local favorites are reopening under new management.
Jerzee s Cafe in Centennial Plaza should open by the end of this month.
Owner Chris Maggiore said he s planning a soft opening before the NFL Draft begins April 29. All that remains are some final touches to the cafe s appearance, technology and staffing. We want to open and do it right, Maggiore said.
The restaurant at 330 Court Ave. NW will have a scaled-down Jerzee s All American Sports Grille menu: burgers, wraps, salads, boxed lunches, pizzas and flatbreads. It also will feature Starbucks coffee and tea beverages and a small selection from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
