Many people continue to roam across the city without wearing face masks. The BMC, Mumbai Police and volunteers at Railways stations have collected ₹ 40.61 crore till March 11 from over 20 lakh offenders, people who did not wear masks. The civic body on March 11 collected a total fine of ₹45.96 lakh in a single day from 22,980 violators who were caught without face masks in public spaces.

Milind Bharambe, joint commissioner (crime branch), Maharashtra said that Mumbai Police sought the custody of gangster Ravi Pujari, who is lodged in a Karanataka Jail, in connection with the 2016 Ghazali Hotel firing case. In the next few days, Pujari will be brought to Mumbai from Karnataka. There are around 49 serious offences registered in Mumbai against him apart from Navi Mumbai and Thane. We had been trying to get his custody for a year, and finally got success in the 2016 Ghazali Hotel firing case, said Bharambe.

Coronavirus in Mumbai: BMC penalises 13,000 in a day for not wearing mask

In less than three months, number of violators caught without face masks in public places has increased three times. Till November 28, 2020 BMC collected a fine amount of Rs.10,07,81,600 from 4,85,737 violators. The fine amount upto Feb 19. has increased to Rs 31,79,43,400 crores that were collected from 15,71,679 lakh violators. The violation which attracted Rs 1000 fine until September 12, was brought down to Rs 200 fine starting September 13. BMC has offered its staff incentive of 10 per cent of the total fine they collect each day. People seem to be taking masks very lightly. We have been appealing to the citizens to follow the covid 19 safety protocol. It has been noticed that on an average more than 500 people are caught from each ward everyday, which is not a good trend. Face mask is compulsory since the pandemic was on peak and even now, said Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Health).

BJP youth leader Pamela Goswami arrested over possession of of cocaine Agencies February 20, 2021 Kolkata, Feb 20: BJP youth wing leader Pamela Goswami was on Friday arrested with cocaine worth lakhs of rupees from south Kolkata s upscale New Alipore area, police said. Goswami, the state secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was along with a friend, identified as Prabir Kumar Dey, in her car when both of them were nabbed, they said. Around 100 gm of cocaine worth a few lakh of rupees was found in her handbag, and other parts of the car, police claimed. Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the New Alipore police station made the arrests when she was parking the vehicle, an officer said.
