GUWAHATI: Impact on Covid-19 treatment expenses after the latest GST cuts on corona-related medicines and equipment is expected to be visible only after a week, said principal secretary of Assam health department Anurag Goel on Sunday.
He said the government will not trim the health budget and will extend additional benefits with the sum of money to be saved following the tax cut.
The symptomatic patients undergoing treatment for Covid with costly medicines are likely to benefit more from the move. Their numbers are only about 10% of the total active cases in the state.
No Space for More Than 2 ICU Beds in Biswanath Civil Hospital: Assam Health Minister

Biswanath: Amid the surge in COVID numbers, the sub-divisional civil hospital of Biwanath, one of the main healthcare facilities of the district of Assam has space for just 2 ICU beds. This was shared by state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta.
The Minister has asked Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath Pranab Sarma to look into the possibility of making more space available for more ICU and ventilator beds in the old civil hospital building. The Minister, however, assured that Biswanath will get 10-20 more ICU beds very soon, arrangements have been made for that and the number of hospital beds would be increased to 100.
