Mary DeChillo has had nothing short of a momentous career in teaching and social work. She is a warm, bright and profoundly caring person who approaches each facet of her life with enthusiasm and energy and above all, a genuineness that challenges untruth and unkindness.
After growing up in Saco, Maine to a working class family, she went to Assumption College in Worcester and eventually to New York University for a master s degree in social work from New York University.
DeChillo’s strength is in a background which taught her from day one about class and diversity. Her father, an insurance salesman who paid his client’s premiums during their hard times, came from a poor family but he always made himself available and involved with his children.
