Bangor, Maine News Update: April 5, 2021 The Maine CDC reports 295 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. Health officials are calling this a crucial time, as they encourage residents to get vaccinated before the start of tourist season, and possible influx of visitors from out of state. All residents, age 16 and over, will be eligible to get vaccinated, beginning on Wednesday. A man was arrested on a probation violation after a standoff in Brewer on Saturday. Police originally got a tip of a hostage situation, but determined there was no hostage. Officials had been looking for Nicholas McDonald on an outstanding warrant. People traveling evenings and nights on State Street in Bangor can expect possible detours as crews work to install a new water main. Construction will start this evening, near the intersection of State and Hancock Streets, and take place between 6 PM and 6 AM. Find a map of the detour plan on the city of Bangor s website.

Storage Building Destroyed in Fire at Bangor s Fielder s Choice

Fielder s Choice Ice Cream just barely opened their doors, when a storage building on their property was destroyed by fire. The ice cream shop celebrated their grand opening on April 1st, at the old location of Blackbeard s, on the Odlin Road in Bangor. Then on Sunday afternoon, the Bangor Fire Department was called to their location when witnesses at a nearby gas station saw flames coming from a storage building on the Fielder s Choice property. Captain Andrew Emery tells us the structure was fully involved when crews arrived. The building, that housed a bobcat tractor and lawn care implements, is considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.
