TABAQUITE MP Anita Haynes on Sunday questioned whether there would be transparency and accountability in the distribution of scholarships and bursaries to students who successfully sit the CAPE examination during the covid19 pandemic.
Addressing a news conference at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Port of Spain, Haynes said it was not illogical for there to be a reduction in the distribution of scholarships and bursaries to students because of economic constraints caused by the pandemic.

Haynes: Come clean with TT on virtual learning
Anita Haynes - Angelo Marcelle
Opposition MP for Tabaquite Anita Haynes has called on Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly to come clean with TT and give accurate data about virtual learning in the country.
She made the call at a press conference at the Office of the Leader of Opposition, Charles Street, Port of Spain on Sunday.
She said the minister should also be honest about the fact that accurate data had not been collected over time.
“Therefore your policy-making is flawed, because it is based on subjective analysis rather than any qualitative data.”

TABAQUITE MP Anita Haynes sees Cabinet’s decision to return to the open market to find a buyer for the Guaracara refinery as an act of contempt.
“Our country’s bread and butter is the energy sector, and the government’s decision to return to the open market, rather than working to ensure that one of our greatest assets remains in the hands of citizens of this nation, is their latest act of contempt towards the people of TT,” Haynes said.
At a news conference on Tuesday, both ministers of Finance and Energy Colm Imbert and Franklin Khan disclosed that Cabinet had decided on Monday to reject Patriotic’s bid for a second time and look for another operator. Patriotic has an option to put in another bid.

A war of words erupted between the PNM and the UNC on Friday, the day after CNC Morning Brew presenter Natalee Legore drew comparisons between supporters of outgoing US President Donald Trump storming the Capitol in Washington, DC (fuelled by Trump s claims that last November s US presidential election was fraudulent) and claims of election fraud by the UNC in last August s general election.
Amidst the verbal feud between the PNM and UNC, rumours circulated that the TV station had fired the Jamaican-born Legore and CNC3 journalist Akash Samaroo, who co-hosts the Morning Brew talk show with her.
But Legore told Newsday, I don t know what you re speaking about. I am not aware of any firing of anybody. So if you get any information to the contrary, let me know.
