Another lockdown in Victoria has been driven by the lack of federal initiative in developing dedicated, design-built facilities for people from overseas requiring quarantine (“NSW on alert as Victoria flares up”, May 28). The need for NSW to be on high alert once again is an overflow from the increase in Victoria’s cases, which was imported from a South Australian person becoming infected in a hotel with inadequate ventilation systems to deal with the spread of this infection. Catholic Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher has called for an examination of what state schools were getting right and the humility to learn from them because they regularly perform better in academic results.
He said the Catholic school system had “never had it so good” in terms of funding, and should focus on using the resources well. Archbishop Fisher also warned Australia against turning its back on educating students in the humanities.
