MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - National Police Week honors fallen officers from around the country in our nationâs capitol.
This year, two Shelby County Sheriffâs Office employees, lost to COVID-19, are also being honored.
âWe just want the world to know that we lost two people that put their soul into what they did,â said Chief Inspector Takietha Tuggle.
Members of the sheriffâs office are remembering two colleagues who died last year.
Fairview Township Police honors 10 officers for their work

The Fairview Township Police Department celebrated National Police Week by recognizing 10 of its officers during an annual award ceremony recently.
Their work was highlighted May 8 at the Fairview Township Fire Station as exceptional acts of police service last year, according to a department news release.
Officer Brandon Yeager received the Officer of the Year award for outstanding performance as a police officer in 2020, according to the release. He also received awards for arresting four individuals involved with a robbery last May and performing CPR on an individual.
York County Commissioner Ron Smith was the guest speaker, according to the release.

As Anthony Jackson drove across the San Jacinto Bridge on the Grand Parkway early Thursday, he hit and killed a wandering 300-pound alligator.
According to Montgomery County authorities, Jackson was traveling at the posted speed heading eastbound around 3 a.m. when he hit the 10-foot animal and dragged it under his vehicle for nearly a mile.
Jackson s car sustained some damage, but he was uninjured. A game warden authorized disposing of the reptile s body in the San Jacinto River.

Texas Driver Crashes Into Giant 10-Foot Long Alligator

In the wee hours of Thursday morning, one driver on the Grand Parkway East on Texas Highway 99 ran into a very rude awakening.
A colossus alligator, measuring in at over 10 feet, was hit by a vehicle on the 6450 block North just after 3 a.m. The driver suffered minor injuries while the crash proved fatal for the alligator. The driver suffered minor injuries, airbags deployed, and the alligator did not survive, Steve Squier from Montgomery County s Sheriff s Office confirmed to
Newsweek.
The alligator was ultimately measured at 10-feet-3-inches in length, Squier said.
