When Ithiel Horton committed to Delaware out of Roselle Catholic High School more than three years ago, it appeared he would spend his college career playing at the mid-major level.
But three years later, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard from Vauxhall is expected to play a big role for Pittsburgh after becoming eligible following a sit-out year last season due to NCAA transfer rules. He became an even more important piece for the Panthers after the team’s leading scorer, Justin Champagnie, went down for 6-8 weeks with a knee injury. Champagnie, a native of Brooklyn who is the twin brother of St. John’s wing Julian Champagnie, was averaging 17.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from the field.
