Designs of the new hostel - Credit: Darc Studio Camden Council has approved a new hostel for homeless families in Dartmouth Park. The town hall’s planning committee signed off the demolition and redevelopment of the hostel in 2 Chester Road on Thursday (April 22). Objections were lodged on the grounds of “poor” design, its massing and the quality of accommodation. The new three to four storey building, across three blocks, will have 50 flats including 30 studios, 16 one-beds and two wheelchair accessible units. The homes will all be accessed from a central communal courtyard.  The existing building at 2 Chester Road - Credit: Fabian Wilkinson

The Alliance: Concern over more flats at West Hampstead pub | Hampstead Highgate Express

The Alliance pub in West Hampstead. - Credit: Fordwych RA Regulars at The Alliance pub in West Hampstead are concerned about a planning application which would see the ground floor space reduced.  Mark Reynolds, who owns the building, has applied to convert some of the pub s ground floor into two flats and compensate for this by creating a new community room in the pub s basement.  Drinkers - and community groups who used the pub as a meeting place prior to the pandemic - are worried the latest application could see the pub s viability impacted.  Keith Moffitt, co-chair of the Fortune Green and West Hampstead Neighbourhood Development Forum, told this newspaper: The thing about The Alliance is that it s a pub that does really cater for the West Hampstead community. I have been to funerals, birthday parties, all sorts of meetings there, it s that sort of pub.

The fire at Daleham Gardens in 2017. - Credit: Archant Camden Council has resolved to demolish 31 Daleham Gardens, which has been sitting derelict since it was struck by fire in 2017, leading to the death of resident Magdalena Fink. Council officers moved to reassure Camden’s planning committee on December 17 that the demolition of the building was to the public’s benefit, though concerns were raised over the potential for the plot to sit empty for an extended period. Investigations are said to have been undertaken on a rebuilding plan which would have seen the building’s façade retained, but were dismissed due to health and safety concerns.
