Passengers can get the results within hours and will be charged for the test A COVID-19 lab will begin functioning at Chennai airport in two days. Passengers coming to the city without a COVID-19 negative certificate or those who develop symptoms can get tested at the facility.
Officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said the State government authorities on Monday inspected the lab and gave nod for opening it. It would be operated in the international arrival hall.

Consignment arrives ahead of vaccination drive scheduled to be held at 307 places across the State on January 16 Tamil Nadu received its first consignment of a COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday. As many as 5,36,500 doses of Covishield arrived in Chennai from Pune. They are being dispatched to the districts ahead of a vaccination drive scheduled to be held at 307 places across the State on January 16.
It could begin operations next week
A new COVID-19 testing facility will start functioning inside the airport for passengers who are symptomatic and those who want to get themselves tested.
The laboratory has been in the works for a few months, and sources said it could be opened next week.
Officials of the Airports Authority of India said a government authorised lab would set up the COVID-19 facility in the international arrival hall.
“We have already spoken to them and arrangements are being made now. It will be up and functioning latest by next Monday. This lab will be open for a year. We have instructed them to fix prices for tests based on the government’s instructions,” an official said.
