Here s why Canadians have reason to be more optimistic about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout

Posted: Apr 09, 2021 4:00 AM ET | Last Updated: April 9 Canada s vaccination record can seem disappointing when compared to the progress in some other countries, but it may depend on what measurement you re looking at.(Bob Edme/The Associated Press) Comparing apples to oranges isn t necessarily useful if you re trying to learn more about apples. And that is exactly what some experts say is happening in recent discussions of Canada s vaccine rollout performance on the world stage. This country s vaccination record can seem disappointing when compared to the quick progress in some other countries, but that may not be a fair comparison, some experts say. The fact is certain key metrics suggest Canada s rollout performance is actually on the rise compared to those of many other countries.

April 5, 2021It s April 2021 and we re still being fed the same stay home, save lives line of 2020. But lockdowns are based on dodgy data and exaggerations, as well as causing more harm than they supposedly prevent. As of today, Ontario is once again locked down. Health Unit Doesn t Believe Further Restrictions Needed

Dryden, ON, Canada / CKDR Apr 6, 2021 4:30 PM There are calls from three Medical Officers of Health in southern Ontario to implement a province-wide stay-at-home order to stop the spread of COVID-19. Dr. Kit Young Hoon with the Northwestern Health Unit says she doesn’t know if we need such an order in our catchment area. “We are recommending that people only interact with their own household. Outdoor gathering limits are limited to five people and we’re recommending that people avoid activities where they interact with others. Which is somewhat similar to a stay-at-home order.” Dr. Young Hoon notes we are in a situation where we are seeing variants of concern and that can change rapidly but we can do our part by following the rules and recommendations under the lockdown.

First-dose-first : Panel reassures Canadians 16 weeks between COVID-19 vaccine shots is safe

Article content Canada’s vaccination advisors aren’t walking back a controversial “first-dose-first” COVID vaccine strategy of spacing shots up to four months apart, arguing it’s critical to get at least one dose into more bodies as quickly as possible. Last month, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, or NACI, endorsed stretching the interval between doses up to 16 weeks — a gap longer than any endorsed by any other country — to get a greater proportion of the population at least partially vaccinated. The officially authorized window is 21 days between doses for Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine, and 28 days between Moderna shots. We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
