A Bloc Québécois motion to allow Quebec and other provinces “to amend their respective constitutions” under section 45 of the Constitution, and to recognize French as the “common language of the Quebec nation,” received all-party support in a vote in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
Conservative Party Leader Erin O’Toole and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh voted in favour of the motion. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who returned from Brussels on Tuesday evening and is in quarantine for 14 days, did not attend question period virtually to cast his vote.
