The new multi-unit residential development would be located on 11 lots where the Native Friendship Centre site currently is.
Tanya Turner, the Director of Development Services, went over a few of the details at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting…
“Between the existing Friendship Centre and the daycare center building there is currently a vacant portion of land that is used for parking. The Quesnel Tillicum Society is intending on constructing a new 5-storey, 34-unit apartment building where this parking area is located. The units are to be geared towards low income individuals.”

The 300-unit single-family residential subdivision proposed by Canadian Horizons came before city council today, Feb. 16, in a bid to rezone the area to allow higher density construction in addition to amending the current Official Community Plan bylaw prior to the council beginning a lengthy public consultation process. Councillor Katie Robinson proposed an alternative recommendation to deny first reading of the OCP and zoning amendments, saying she “firmly believed the correct zoning is already on this property, and that would be country residential.”

March 8 public hearing for subdivision application
City of Cranbrook council is holding a virtual public hearing March 8 for zoning amendment bylaws covering a rezoning and subdivision application for a property at 4A – 11th Street South.
Terpsma Land Development Consulting, on behalf Kan-West Solutions Ltd., has applied for an amendment to the City of Cranbrook Zoning Bylaw to enable consideration of rezoning and subdivision of the property.
Council Feb. 8 passed the first two readings of Zoning Amendment Bylaw Nos. 4033 & 4034 and a public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, March 8.

Penticton city council will be asked at its meeting Tuesday, Feb. 16, to give first reading to rezoning and Official Community Plan bylaws to allow the controversial housing development on Spiller Road, known as Vinterea, to move forward. City staff are also asking for a green light to begin public and stakeholder engagement. Canadian Horizons is proposing a residential subdivision of more than 300 single-family homes on 51 hectares of land located at 1050 Spiller Rd. in Penticton s northeast.
