Boulder City Council passes resolution calling for gun control

This comes after ten people were killed in a shooting at a Boulder King Soopers last month. Author: Caroline Gregor (9News) Updated: 11:03 PM MDT April 20, 2021 BOULDER, Colo. Boulder City Council unanimously passed a symbolic resolution Tuesday that calls on state and national leaders to pass gun control legislation that they said would prevent mass shootings. The resolution supports things like a waiting period of at least six days for gun purchases, universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. It also supports appealing the district court s decision to lift the city s assault weapon ban that was put in place in 2018. A judge ruled last month a city can t ban the possession of assault weapons because state law says local governments can t do that.

There was rioting in the Minneapolis suburbs and in other cities across the country Monday night. The violence was triggered after Officer Kim Potter, a 26-year law enforcement veteran, shot a young black man during a traffic stop over the weekend. Authorities in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, say she meant to use her Taser, but accidentally pulled her firearm. You may have seen video of that incident by now. But there are other videos you haven’t seen. Like the video of Officer Eric Talley rushing into a Boulder, Colorado, grocery store to stop a mass murderer who killed 10 people. Officer Talley died in the line of duty.

Boulder declares March 22 as day of remembrance for victims

Boulder declares March 22 as day of remembrance for victims April 7, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail BOULDER, Colo. (AP) The Boulder City Council has approved designating March 22 as a day of remembrance to honor the 10 people killed in the shooting at a supermarket last month. The declaration of the Boulder Day of Remembrance was read by Mayor Sam Weaver at Tuesday s city council meeting, the Daily Camera reported. The declaration states that it has been said that there are three deaths when people die when the body ceases to function, when a body is returned to the earth and when someone s name is spoke for the last time. By making each March 22 the Boulder Day of Remembrance, the city hopes to prevent that third death by asking residents to pause and remember the 10 people who died Denny Stong, Neven Stanisic, Rikki Olds, Tralona Bartkowiak, Teri Leiker, Officer Eric Talley, Suzanne Fountain, Kevin Mahoney, Lynn Murray and Jody Waters.
