HYDERABAD: Thunderstorms lashed the Greater Hyderabad region towards Monday evening, bringing some much needed relief from the hot weather. In a span of just about an hour, it rained as much as 51 mm in Shaikpet, 40 mm in Asifnagar and 40 mm in Gachibowli. Most other parts of the city too witnessed thunderstorms, recording 10-30 mm of rainfall. The issue of waterlogging on roads was reported in a few locations.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Forest Development Corporation on Tuesday decided to provide 1,000 tonnes of firewood free of cost to crematoriums in and around Hyderabad in view of the high demand for wood for funerals on account of increasing deaths due to Covid.
SFDC Chairman Vanteru Pratap Reddy said the decision to provide wood has been taken on humanitarian grounds.
The Corporation acted in response to media reports that crematoriums are facing acute shortage of firewood due to increasing number of Covid deaths.

Hyderabad, May 4 : The Covid-19 pandemic in Telangana has claimed 59 more lives, the highest single-day death toll in the state so far.
The fresh fatalities pushed the cumulative death toll to 2,476.
The case fatality rate moved up to 0.53 per cent against the national average of 1.1 per cent.
The state also reported 6,876 new Covid cases during the 24-hour period that ended 8 p.m. Monday. This has pushed the cumulative tally of cases to 4,63,361.
Government and private laboratories tested 70,961 samples during the 24-hour period.
