COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. â Meijer alongside the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, Feeding America West Michigan and the West Michigan Whitecaps will donate 6,0000 turkeys to families in need in the parking lot of LMCU.
âThe pandemic has provided an impactful reminder of the importance of connectivity and that our community can best recover with unified efforts. Our YMCA is honored to work alongside partners like Meijer and the Whitecaps to serve our neighbors by making nutritious food more accessible,â said Scott Lewis, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.
Under the deal, Gene Jones, president and CEO of the SKY Family YMCA, will lead both organizations.
“I’m looking forward to really getting to know the community and getting the Y more involved in internal as well as external programs and connections with people in the community who can help to further our mission,” said Jones, who limited his contact with Manatee area foundations and nonprofits while the agreement was being negotiated. “The board of directors has put together a list of people they want me to connect with.”
The Manatee YMCA, which has facilities in both Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch and operates programs in Parrish, will retain its own board of directors.
