When the pandemic rolled in last year and dramatically altered how people live their lives, many performers found themselves shifting from the stage to a virtual spotlight, but not all of them.
In New Haven, the International Festival on Arts & Ideas came up with a program called Arts on Call, which allows people in the Greater New Haven area to hire a performer to entertain them outside their home. The program was launched in 2020 and paid nearly $10,000 directly to artists who performed for nearly 1,500 New Haven residents.

The 14 projects awarded will mitigate 82.2 tons of smog forming nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions over the lifetime of the projects. The projects will also remove over 3,908 tons of climate-warming carbon dioxide (CO2). Additionally, a total of 5.5 tons of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and 5.4 tons of fine particulate matter, which contributes to asthma and other bronchial conditions, will be removed from communities across Connecticut, some of which bear a disproportionate share of Connecticut s air pollution.

Admittedly, lasagna isn t a hot item at a lot of Italian restaurants. I remember when I was a kid my father used to take my sister and me to Panzo s, a restaurant on Main Street in East Haven, when it was lasagna night - and they sure did make an epic one. Beyond that, it was my mom s lasagna, and I only got it on Easter. I associate lasagna with Easter.
Ya just didn t see lasagna on a ton of menus at the restaurants we frequented as a family, and even less nowadays. There
had to be a lasagna night . And I, personally, am more of a purist about my lasagna than I am my pizza. A great lasagna - like a woman - is hard to find.
