The fate of a proposal that would essentially double the amount of water diverted from the Greater Bridgeport system to southwestern Connecticut now rests in the hands of the state.
Environmental groups and residents from the Fairfield area spent two public hearings this past week objecting to a permit now before the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, citing negative impacts on residents and the watershed.

BRIDGEPORT Do city police officers treat all citizens equally? Do majority Black and Hispanic neighborhoods receive fair treatment from other big departments like public facilities and health? Is the local government payroll diverse enough? Do minority businesses struggle to receive municipal contracts?
Bridgeport is advertising for a consultant to grapple with those weighty questions and suggest solutions through a “race equity” study that, according to the online bid document, will “enable the city to establish itself as a national standard for racial justice and equality.”

Fairfield County, CT - Thursday, April 8, Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) moderated an Informational Forum on the proposed project to divert water within the Greater Bridgeport system (which includes the towns of Bridgeport, Fairfield, Weston, Easton and the Mill River Watershed) to lower Fairfield County towns by increasing from the current 6.9 million gallons per day (MGD) and doubling to 14.2 MGD for the next 25 years.
The program and the insightful panelists provided a much needed educational conversation ahead of the May 4 Public Hearing to be held by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on this diversion application.
Environmental Concerns RE Aquarion Plan to Divert Bpt System Water Written by Carol Barrios
Fairfield, CT - Mill River Wetland Committee (MRWC) announced it has filed for Intervenor status, along with the Town of Fairfield, and other environmental advocacy groups in response to Aquarion Water’s application to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) seeking approval to transfer up to 14.2 million gallons of water per day for 25 years from its Greater Bridgeport System to lower Fairfield County. If approved, this would double the water volume Aquarion currently diverts to those towns from Greater Bridgeport through their Southwest Regional Pipeline.
