Rockefeller Foundation names Newark in $20M equitable COVID vaccination plan 5 cities chosen to increase rates for communities of color April 13, 2021 8:01 am The Rockefeller Foundation announced April 13 that it selected Newark as one of five pilot cities to launch a historic $20 million equity-first vaccination initiative to improve the vaccination rate among communities of color, which have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation will invest in United Way of Greater Newark’s public education campaign to improve confidence in the vaccine among Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), women, the homeless, youth aging out of foster care, undocumented residents and other communities. Additionally, United Way of Greater Newark will partner with community partners throughout the city to deliver vaccines through mobile vaccine units in these same communities.
