Marsh & McLennan rebrands, & it's pretty straightforward

Marsh & McLennan rebrands, & it’s pretty straightforward Tuesday, March 16, 2021 11:27 AM In what the company acknowledges is a small branding change, professional services and insurance firm Marsh & McLennan has dropped the ampersand to become Marsh McLennan, the Insurance Journal reported. The change is meant to emphasize that Marsh McLennan is a combination of four businesses working together to serve clients, the company said. “Our modernized name and logo, an abstract infinity symbol, embody and emphasize our heritage,” the company stated in announcing the new branding. “Taken together, these changes also convey how our businesses Marsh, Guy Carpenter, Mercer and Oliver Wyman are working in unison to take on the world’s greatest challenges.” Mercer and Marsh both have significant operations in Greater Des Moines.

On Leadership: Iowa "She-roes" inspire today's leaders

On Leadership: Iowa She-roes inspire today’s leaders BY SUZANNA de BACA , President and group publisher, Business Publications Corp. Friday, March 5, 2021 6:00 AM March is Women’s History Month, a time to reflect and celebrate the accomplishments of female role models. Right here in Iowa, countless women have shaped and advanced our state and made a difference in our lives, including the 180 particularly noteworthy women honored in the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame. While I had been familiar with the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame, an endeavor of the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women, I revisited it last year when preparing for the launch of the Business Record’s Fearless initiative. San Wong, director of the Department of Human Rights, which oversees the Commission, provided me access to archival photos and biographies of the Hall of Fame inductees and I immediately fell headlong into history. I was riveted by the stories of these smart, courageous local

Community Foundation sees record giving in 2020 as more people step up to meet critical needs BY MICHAEL CRUMB, Senior Staff Writer Thursday, February 11, 2021 10:39 AM The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines received $86.6 million in charitable giving in 2020, a record amount that helped it provide more than $70.1 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in Central Iowa. That level of giving an $8 million increase from 2019 was heartening to see, particularly because of the tough year so many people had in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, said Kristi Knous, foundation president. “I think it gives great hope, not just for recovery but resiliency of the wonderful community we live in,” she said. “It brings a bright light to the end of this tunnel for our nonprofit sector as well, to know our generous donors really did step up in such a meaningful way. We can only hope we can continue to inspire that sort of giving in 2021 and beyond as
