KMTA takes a slew of decisions at maiden meeting
The first meeting of the Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority (KMTA) held on Friday under the chairmanship of Minister for Transport A.K. Saseendran has decided to opt for a fresh Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Greater Kochi area, rationalise bus routes, hasten work on the walkway-cum-non-motorised road corridor linking Ernakulam North and South railway stations and develop a common app to integrate different modes of public transport in the region.

They continue to live in crumbling dwellings with housing projects failing to take off
Housing projects, even those that were inaugurated, have yet to come to the rescue of residents living in ramshackle houses at Santhom Colony, Mundamveli.
In February 2014, an inauguration was held to kick-start work on a housing project for 104 residents of the colony that lies along the filthy Rameswaram canal in West Kochi. The housing scheme was to be included in the Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) project, launched by then Union government and implemented in collaboration with the State government and the local body.

The city’s growing stature as the hub of Malayalam film industry received a boost with the proposed film post-production centre at Kadavanthra figuring in the budget.
The State Chalachithra Academy will take the lead in setting up the new complex on the land owned by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). The five-storey building will have two floors dedicated to indoor shooting. The focus area of the post-production centre will be the provision of modern facilities for dubbing, editing, and colour grading, according to senior officials of the Department of Culture.
With a major chunk of film shooting and post-production work getting shifted to Kochi, the department hopes that the centre will attract the attention of filmmakers and technicians. A section of outdoor equipment at the Chitranjali studio in Thiruvananthapuram will be shifted to the proposed centre. It will be given on rent for film production, the officials said.

A local-level monitoring committee represented by various departments will be formed to address various issues, including water logging, faced by the city.
The decision came at a meeting of officials convened by Mayor M. Anilkumar on Tuesday as part of coordinating the functioning of various government departments in the city. He said that the corporation would make all efforts to coordinate the development works.

Close coordination with district administration and waste management are the focus, he says. M. Anilkumar of the CPI(M) was elected Mayor of the Kochi corporation on Monday, bringing an LDF candidate back to the chair after a ten-year hiatus.
Mr. Anilkumar secured 36 votes, defeating the UDF candidate Antony Kureethara who secured 32 votes. The councillors toed their respective party lines, with the Independent candidates sticking to the allegiances they had promised earlier. K. P. Antony, councillor from Manassery, who had contested as an independent candidate, abstained from voting.
