GHS extends second dose of COVID-19 vaccination by 4 weeks

705 The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says its initial vaccination policy of having the second dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine administered within an eight-week window period has been extended to 12-weeks This, according to the GHS, is to allow more people to get ready for the second dose deployment and ease of deployment. The Director-General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, at a press conference in Accra on Sunday, April 18, explained that although Ghana had opted for the eight-week window period as the earliest time for the second dose, it had become necessary to extend it by another four weeks.

Parts of Ghana to experience systematic power outages from May – Energy Minister

+ Energy Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has revealed that some parts of the nation will from next month experience systematic power outages. This, according to him, will be an addition to the current outages power consumers have been experiencing which has been attributed to system upgrades and maintenance works. Energy analysts have in the last few weeks asked for a load shedding timetable that will enable power consumers plan in anticipation of power cuts. 705 A year ago today, March 12, 2020, the country confirmed the first two cases of COVID-19, the viral disease that had pounded many economies in the world. The case confirmation came barely 24 hours after the World Health Organisation (WHO) had declared the disease a global pandemic. The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, announced the first two confirmed cases at a press briefing in Accra on March 12, 2020. By the end of that month, the number had increased to 152 confirmed cases, with five deaths, 22 recoveries and 125 active cases. And as of yesterday, March 11, 2021, the national COVID-19 burden was 4,782. Cumulatively, the country has recorded 86,737 cases, out of which 81,299 patients have recovered, with 652 deaths.
