The father-of-four admits he could not cope. There were twists of mental anguish, then financial ones. The 49-year-old says he was forcibly removed from his home after falling behind on rent and bills. When he hit rock bottom, he was living alone in a two-man tent on the Trans Pennine Trail and spending time in a bus station to stay warm. He relied on churches, charities, and good samaritans for food.

HSBC UK has teamed up with Stonewall Housing as part of the bank’s initiative to make it easier for homeless people to access basic banking. Having access to a bank account makes it easier for people to claim benefits, receive wages and pay rent. Stonewall Housing has experienced a 55% increase in people calling its housing advice line during the coronavirus pandemic and a 48% increase in online contact.

Undergraduate Researcher in College of Creative Studies Wins Prestigious Churchill Scholarship

April 13, 2021 at 4:00 pm by Sean Crommelin Alec Cao, a fourth-year physics major in the College of Creative Studies, has won one of seventeen 2021-2022 Churchill Scholarships.  Cao will be traveling to the United Kingdom for one year of master’s study at Churchill College in the University of Cambridge. The scholarship covers full tuition, a stipend, travel costs and an opportunity to apply for a $2000 special research grant, according to the Churchill Scholarship website. Churchill College is the only college at Cambridge focused on S.T.E.M. subjects.
