The government has appointed Professor Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin, Prof AK Azad and Prof Mahmud Hasan as national professors.
These eminent professors were made national professors today for the next five years, Secondary and Higher Education Division Additional Secretary AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik said.
They were appointed with the approval of President Md Abdul Hamid, said a Secondary and Higher Education Division gazette notification.
The eminent educationists will perform the duties of national professors and get honorarium and other benefits as per the Bangladesh National Professor Resolution (appointment, conditions and facilities) 1981, it said.
No new tender under Public Works Division until June 30

The government has suspended the contract awarding of all new tender proposals under the Public Works Division until June 30.
The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase at a meeting on Wednesday put the moratorium as there is no enough time to implement any new project under the current fiscal year (2020-21).
“We don’t have enough time for implementing any new project. Only one month is left before the new fiscal year starts,” said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while briefing reporters after a cabinet body meeting.
The education ministry is set to finalise the draft of the Education Act soon, keeping a provision for imposing ban on printing, publishing, and marketing notebooks and guidebooks.
The draft act stipulates that teachers will not be able to give private tuitions to students of their own institutions. It also seeks to ban corporal punishment for schoolchildren and mental torture by teachers.
Speaking to this newspaper after attending a virtual meeting yesterday afternoon, top education officials said the work on the draft by the ministry was in the last stage. We will take a short time to bring changes in the sentences and words of the draft if there is any last-minute changes, said a top education ministry official.
