A WOMAN in her 30s from Kelantan bought a tudung bawal (wide shawl) for RM75,000 for Hari Raya, Mingguan Malaysia reported.
Bawal Exclusive boutique founder and owner Haliza Maysuri (pic) said the woman had ordered the shawl for the celebration last year, but was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our client’s wish will be fulfilled this Raya in May as she has made an appointment to collect her order this week, ” she told the Malay daily.
Haliza said her client had requested the shawl be designed with marine motifs against a light blue background to suit her career as the owner of a seafood restaurant.

IN a bid to address the shortage of teachers at Chinese vernacular schools, the Education Ministry will be asking nearly 500 temporary teachers to sign up for training as full-fledged educators, Sin Chew Daily reported.A spokesman for Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon’s office said 471 candidates – all of whom were temporary teachers in 2020 – would be receiving letters to attend a one-year teacher training programme.
The letters will specify which course the candidates will be taking as well as the teachers’ training college that they will be attending.
The spokesman said the course was designed to be taken during school holidays to minimise the disruption to the teachers’ duties.

A RAILWAY worker who jumped onto train tracks to save a child from an oncoming train has received much praise, Makkal Osai reported.
Mayur Shelke was working at the train station in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on Monday when he saw the girl, who was with her mother, trip and fall onto the tracks.
As the shocked mother stood frozen in place, Mayur sprinted towards them, jumped down onto the track, scooped up the child and hopped back onto the platform just as the train rolled past them.
Railway authorities released a video of the incident. The footage went viral immediately.

A VIDEO showing a snatch thief dragging a fallen pregnant woman across the road while bystanders stood watching led to the arrest of two men in India, Makkal Osai reported.
The woman, who was identified as Geetha, had earlier left her house in Thambaram, Chennai, to pray at a small hut temple nearby.
In the video, a young man was seen approaching her and trying to snatch her gold chain or “thali”.
Geetha held on to the chain in shock but she tripped.
The snatch thief kept pulling and dragged her across the asphalt.

HONG Kong singer Andy Hui has been spotted in Taipei and is said to be attempting to make a comeback after the scandal of his extramarital affair two years ago.
Sin Chew Daily reported that Hui, 53, is slated to be involved in a TV series, The Producer in Taiwan and to sing its opening theme.
He was photographed arriving at the Taoyuan International Airport on Saturday accompanied by a male assistant.
Hui appeared to be in good spirits, responding to all the questions by reporters at the airport.
He said he would be in Taiwan for about a month due to work commitments.
