tvN’s new weekend drama “Mr. Queen” promised all kinds of body-swap fun with its premise: a man from modern-day Korea landing in the body of a Joseon-era queen. Its premiere last week delivered on these expectations and more, with outlandish (and raunchy!) humor, awesome performances, and just the right amount of intrigue to keep us hooked. After two episodes, it’s clear that “Mr. Queen” is not your typical historical drama
or your typical body-swap drama.

“Mr. Queen” earned immediate brownie points when it started off by gracing us with a special appearance by Choi Jin Hyuk! The actor plays main character Jang Bong Hwan, a chef in modern-day Korea’s Blue House.

tvN s historical and fantasy-comedy drama Mr. Queen is about a man from the modern era whose soul was trapped in the body of a queen from the Joseon dynasty. Kim So Yong is played by actress Shin Hye Sun. She is the Joseon queen with the soul of Blue House chef Jang Bong Hwan trapped inside her body. Kim Jung Hyun, on the other hand, is King Cheoljong. He may be weak and ineffective on the outside, but he is a strong and brilliant king on the inside.

Choi Jin Hyuk made a special appearance in the December 12 premiere as Jang Bong Hwan in his original body as a cocky chef who works at the Blue House. After he falls into a swimming pool and is kissed by Kim So Yong, he wakes up in Kim So Yong’s body. Starting from episode two, Choi Jin Hyuk also narrates some lines from his character’s perspective in his new body.
