Developer investigates privatising Mangawhai water supply The Kaipara District Council is unsure how to respond until it completes a feasibility study. Mangawhai’s water supply will be owned and operated by private developers if a proposed pipeline project goes ahead. Mangawhai Central Ltd has approached the Kaipara District Council (KDC) with a proposal to build a pipeline from Langs Beach to Mangawhai, connecting the town to the Whangarei water supply. The Whangarei District Council would sell water to Mangawhai Central, which would then on-sell the water to houses in the Central development, and other suburbs that connect in the future.

Wednesday, 28 April 2021, 2:16 pm Kaipara District Council has accepted the recommendation from the Hearings Panel to approve Private Plan Change 78 after Elected Members voted last month for further time to consider the Panel’s findings. The private plan change application included multiple changes to the Kaipara District Plan, Chapter 16, which covers Estuary Estates in Mangawhai. Most specifically it includes an increase to housing density, which would allow for more houses to be built. The newly approved plan includes modifications to some provisions that were requested by Mangawhai Central Limited in December 2019. The application was publicly notified in April 2020.
