Student starts petition after Anna ISD cancels ‘sexually sensitive’ play with gay characters, secret pregnancy
The student playwright said he and his theater classmates want to send a message to the school board.

An Anna High School senior has created an online petition calling for institutional change after the district said it would not allow a “sexually sensitive” play he wrote to be performed on campus.
Tyler Lang said he created the change.org petition, which had 1,677 signatures as of May 19, after a theater teacher told him last week that his script would not move forward with an intended stage reading because it included gay characters.
Valedictorian Faryn Crossley and Salutatorian Madison Fields
SANTA ANNA – Faryn Crossley is the Santa Anna School Class of 2021 valedictorian while Madison Fields earned the honor of salutatorian.
Santa Anna High School graduation will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, May 21.
Crossley, the daughter of Clay Crossley and Amanda Lishka, said of receiving the news she was named valedictorian, “It means the world to me to be valedictorian of my class. It has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember, and it is a big accomplishment to me. It was both a surprise and expected. I had a good feeling all the hard work would eventually pay off.”

Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors also are asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age, or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.

A 30-year-old Lubbock Airman in the United States Navy died Tuesday, about a week after he became unresponsive while training to be a search and rescue swimmer, officials said.
Nathan Burke, who was assigned to the Naval Aviation Schools Command, in Pensacola, Florida died at Baptist Hospital on Tuesday, according to a Navy news release.
Burke became unresponsive on April 5 during a high-risk training in the pool at Aviation Rescue Swimmer School, officials said.
Rescue swimmer duties include saving crew of downed aircraft, passengers aboard stranded or capsized vessels at sea, or hikers and mountain climbers in danger. They also deliver aid and supplies to countries in humanitarian operations.
