While temperatures plunged across the U.S. last week, Exelon Generation’s six Illinois nuclear plants operated around-the-clock, producing enough power to keep 11 million homes and businesses warm. All six nuclear facilities ran at nearly 100 percent output levels last week, providing schools, hospitals, businesses and residences the reliable, carbon-free electricity needed to keep heaters running during the cold snap.

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) today announced Dr. Rita Baranwal as its new Vice President of Nuclear Energy and Chief Nuclear Officer.
Baranwal succeeds Neil Wilmshurst, who was promoted to Senior Vice President of Energy System Resources in November.
Baranwal most recently served as the U.S. Energy Department s Assistant Secretary for its Office of Nuclear Energy, where she managed DOE s portfolio of nuclear research for existing and advanced reactors and new designs.

COVERT, Mich. – Entergy Corporation and Holtec International, through their affiliates, jointly submitted a License Transfer Application today with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requesting approval to transfer the NRC licenses for the Palisades Nuclear Plant to Holtec following its shutdown and permanent defueling in the spring of 2022.

The change of ownership of the Palisades nuclear power plant took an important step this week.
The plant’s current owner, Entergy Corporation, agreed in 2018 to sell it to New Jersey-based Holtec International.
This week, Entergy and Holtec submitted a License Transfer Application with federal regulators.
Holtec specializes in decommissioning facilities like Palisades.
The defueling and decommissioning of the Palisades power plant is scheduled to begin in 2022.
