[You’ve Changed] Fiver is the musical project of Toronto-based singer, guitarist, and producer Simone Schmidt. Schmidt’s latest work is a collaboration with drummer Bianca Palmer and multi-instrumentalists Nick Dourado and Jeremy Costello. Schmidt recorded with the trio dubbed the Atlantic School of Spontaneous Composition in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People near Nova Scotia. Schmidt produced the album, which explores an improvisational approach to country music and got recorded between 2017 and 2018.

Fiver Announces New Album with the Atlantic School of Spontaneous Composition Lead single Leaning Hard (On My Peripheral Vision) comes with an eight-minute documentary on its creation You Wanted Country? Vol 1. The collaborators have now revealed that a full-length album of original songs, Fiver with the Atlantic School of Spontaneous Composition, is due for release on May 7 via You ve Changed Records. Schmidt devised the album s eight songs with drummer Bianca Palmer, guitarist/saxophonist Nick Dourado and bassist/keyboardist Jeremy Costello in Scotch Village, NS, during 2017 and 2018. True to the band s name, the arrangements were largely improvised, stretching and transforming Schmidt s country blueprints into lengthy, shifting voyages that push the genre into exciting new forms.
