A divided Palm Beach County School Board reinstated the ousted principal of Atlantic High School Wednesday, blocking school district leaders’ attempt to end her career after weeks of racial strife at her school.
The extraordinary turnabout came nearly a month after the district let Principal Tara Dellegrotti’s contract expire, ending her employment June 30.
Her reinstatement means the district may owe her back pay for the past month and be required to maintain her job, although not necessarily in a principal position, Dellegrotti’s attorney said.
The rare 3-3 reversal came amid threats of litigation and complaints from two board members that Dellegrotti was being treated unfairly by district leaders.
