KIRKLAND LAKE Human remains were found in a remote area in Holmes Township, northeast of Matachewan Friday evening.
The Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police reported the finding Wednesday morning.

On Friday, June 4, at approximately 8:39 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake OPP responded to a call for service in Holmes Township where they attended a wooded area and located human remains.

On June 4th at approximately 8:39 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for service in a remote area in Holmes Township, northeast of Matachewan.
The OPP attended the wooded area and after further investigation located human remains. The identification of the remains are undetermined at this time.

The OPP North East Region Crime Unit continue to investigate with the assistance of Office of the Chief Coroner and a Forensic Anthropologist. Also assisting are the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit (K9).
