The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 1 just happens to be the most recent, an album of songs Hartford composed but never recorded, only to be found later by his family when sifting through his archival collection. A collaborative recording, this track is performed by Alison Brown and Hawktail (Brittany Haas, Paul Kowert, Jordan Tice, and Dominick Leslie) and the album is up for a Grammy!

An obelisk celebrating the Confederate Army and a headstone commemorating 22nd governor of Texas and Confederate Army Officer Joseph Sayers on the Bastrop County courthouse lawn call for relocation (or worse), so with $28,000 of $50,000 raised for the endeavor, a who s who of song activists livestream on Monday to bring home the remaining $22,000. Huge headliners Natalie Maines and the Chicks lead a burning pack of ATX singer-songwriters including James McMurtry, Eliza Gilkyson, David Ramirez, BettySoo, and others, alongside veteran Americana favorite Dar Williams, and more. Then, local reps Akina Adderley, Ruthie Foster, and Ray Prim wrap it all in roots soul and gospel. All monies benefit the Bastrop County Monument Relocation Committee. –
Crockett waltzes to the top with I Can Help
Thursday, January 14, 2021 – Charley Crockett has the new single from the The Next Waltz, Vol. 3 compilation, a project from Bruce Robison s label, a cover of Billy Swan s 1974 country/pop crossover hit, I Can Help.
The song was the number one most added song at Americana radio this week and the eighth most added on the Triple A charts. While he works on his new album, the follow-up to 2020 s Welcome to Hard Times, Crockett said, We showed up at the studio without any idea what we were gonna cut. Once we got in there I remembered this old Billy Swan number, and I d always wanted to record it. I think we got it in one or two takes. Like everything else at Bruce s place, magic stuck to the tape.
