KARACHI: Three people died due to electrocution in the city in the aftermath of Thursday night’s rain, police and rescuers said on Friday.
In Azizabad, Raheel Arif, 35, got electrocuted after his motorbike slipped in accumulated rainwater late on Thursday night.
However, Area SHO Farrukh Hashmi said that the District Municipal Corporation-Central and a local community had installed an electric pole in the area and it did not belong to K-Electric.
The death sparked a protest as enraged people gathered and they were joined by JDC chief Zafar Abbas.

Last year, on May 20 (2020), the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) issued a notice to the management of Sunrise Publications for printing and selling a booklet series for pre-primary (3-5 year-olds) titled ‘Infant Mathematics’ without obtaining an NOC. Apparently, it included content the PCTB deemed “detrimental for examination and assessment purposes or repugnant to the injunction of Islam or contrary to the integrity, defence or security of Pakistan, or any part of Pakistan or public order or morality” [sic].

Many areas of the city received moderate rain, with some localities pounded by heavy showers on Thursday night, which resulted in prolonged power outages in almost half of the city.
Rainwater accumulated on a number of roads and thoroughfares, causing traffic jams and inconvenience to motorists.
“Under the influence of a monsoon system, Karachi’s different areas received light to moderate rains from Thursday evening till night. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the Gulshan-e-Hadeed area where 70 millimeters of rain was recorded. The monsoon system, which was expected to cause more showers bypassed the city on Friday without causing any significant rain,” Director Met Karachi Sardar Sarfraz told The News on Friday.
