Mumbai-headquartered SMI Coated Products, one of India’s largest labelstock manufacturers, has acquired three Matho waste management systems for its Ambernath production site. SMI was set up in Daman in 1993 on a 750 sqm industrial plot and is now operating out of a 25,000 sqm plot with a 13,000 sqm shopfloor, converting 1,350 tons of paper monthly with seven coaters. The company produces 100 million sqm of labelstock per annum, exporting to 22 countries with a slitting and distribution company established in Jebel Ali, Dubai, UAE.  The slitting trims or matrix waste covered in adhesive attract dust and bacteria, becoming a health hazard and using space that can be utilized for production purposes. German manufacturer Matho offers waste management systems to extract these by suction from the slitting machine or die-cutting station and to transport them to the central unit for shredding the self-adhesive waste without sticking to the sides and clogging the pipes.
