Jaipur, Mar 16: The BJP created a ruckus in the Rajasthan Assembly on Tuesday, demanding an immediate debate on the phone-tapping row and prompting the suspension of a party MLA from the House for seven days.
Accusing the government of tapping phones of public representatives, the BJP moved two adjournment motions to discuss the issue. The BJP MLAs held a dharna in the well of the House after Speaker CP Joshi rejected the adjournment motions.
Party MLA Madan Dilawar was suspended from the House for seven days for unruly behaviour after he interrupted an Independent legislator and had an argument with him. Reacting to the ruckus, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the evening accused the Opposition party of creating unnecessary disturbance and said he had already made a statement over the issue in the Assembly last year.

Odisha to strictly adhere to COVID-19 norms during President Kovind s visit

Bhubaneswar, Mar 16: Ahead of President Ram Nath Kovinds two-day visit to Odisha scheduled from March 21, the state government has made RT-PCR test mandatory for officers, employees and students connected with the visit.
This was decided at a preparatory meeting held under the chairmanship of chief secretary SC Mohapatra here on Monday.
The chief secretary asked the district dministrations of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Puri and Khurda to ensure strict compliance of COVID-19 safety norms during the President s visit.
On March 21, the President will attend the convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Rourkela. Students who will be receiving degrees and certificates from the President and drivers who will be on duty will have to undergo COVID-19 test.
No restoration of full train services: Madras High Court

Chennai, Mar 16: Due to the spurt in the number of Covid cases, no direction can be issued to the Southern Railway to restore its services in full strength, the Madras High Court said on Tuesday.

The first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said this while disposing of a public interest writ petition from advocate Ramkumar Adityan. Due to the sudden increase in the number of cases, the High Court itself has deferred its decision to bring back the physical hearing of cases, the bench pointed out.
