Well, all of that has since changed when a new law was introduced by Ministry of Road Transport that mandated a new regime of High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) – by the vehicle manufacturers, from April 2019.
What transforms a regular registration plate to a high-security registration plate is a host of technical features. To protect against counterfeiting, a chromium-based hologram containing the Ashoka Chakra in blue is applied by hot stamping on the top left-hand corner of the plate on both front and rear plates. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has recently announced that it is now mandatory for all vehicles sold before April 2019 to have a high-security registration plate (HSRP). Alongside the HSRP, colour-coded fuel stickers have also been made mandatory for vehicles registered in Delhi. What is HSRP?
HSRP or high-security registration plates are registration plates for your vehicles that are issued by the government. The plates are made up of aluminium and are affixed using non-reusable locks. This means that the plats are not easy to replace. Further, the plate comprises a hot-stamped chromium-based 20 mm X 20 mm hologram of Ashoka Chakra in blue colour on the top left corner. This hologram depicts that the registration plate is genuine.Â

NEW DELHI: Recently, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) mandated all vehicles to have a high security registration plate (HSRP) that have been sold before April 2019. On Tuesday, the Delhi Transport Department began fining the vehicles without HSRP and colour-coded fuel stickers. The violators should be fined Rs 10,000 under the amended Motor Vehicle Act, but the fine has been compounded to Rs 5,500.
