After being brutally attacked, a panchayat union councillor was beheaded by a gang near Mathupettai in Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu on Monday night.
R Rajesh, 38, was returning home when he was attacked by some gang members with sharp weapons. He was hacked to death and beheaded by them. His severed head was then thrown on the road near Asad Nagar.

THANE: A Thane court has acquitted five persons, including a bar manager and three other employees, in a 2013 case of attempt to murder and culpable homicide, saying the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.
District and Additional Sessions Judge P P Jadhav passed the order on February 10 and a copy of it was made available on February 17.
The cash was being transported in the Kalaburgi registered car when stopped by the Azad Nagar police.

DEVANGERE: The district police on Friday seized Rs 1.47 crore unaccounted cash near Aralimara circle on KR Road in the city.
The cash was being transported in the Kalaburgi registered car when stopped by the Azad Nagar police who found no documents for the cash and confiscated it along with the vehicle. Three people Mahesh (25), Beeralinga (23) and Srikanth (26) have been arrested and an investigation is going on.
According to police, the cash belonged to Sreepal Jain a resident of Kalaburgi. Police have decided to handover the cash to Income Tax officials for investigation. Azad Nagar police station ASI Jagannath, police constable Anjaneya, Ravi, Rudresh Gudigeri and others were involved in the seizure.
The accused told the police that they had no idea that the animal was a dolphin.
PRAYAGRAJ: Three men were arrested on Thursday night in Pratapgarh district after a video of them allegedly killing a Gangetic dolphin with an axe and sticks went viral on social media. The incident took place near Sharda Sahayak Jal Shakha at Kotharia village, under the limits of Nawabganj police station of the district.
Police said that the incident took place on December 24 and the video went viral on social media on Wednesday.
The Union government had declared the Gangetic dolphin the national aquatic animal in 2009.
The arrests were made after the video of their act went viral on social media on Friday.

LUCKNOW: Three persons were arrested for beating a Gangetic dolphin to death in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
The arrests of the three persons, who indulged in beating the animal with rods and axe, came after the video of their act went viral on social media. The incident was reported at Kotharia village under Nawabganj police station of Pratapgarh district.
The dolphin had strayed into a stream of Sharda canal. As per the sources, the incident had taken place on December 24, 2020, and the video went viral on Wednesday, January 6.
