With reduced COVID-19 restrictions and ample water supply, public will enjoy better summer months this year – Manila Bulletin

(ALI VICOY / MANILA BULLETIN) Executive Director Sevillo David Jr. of the National Water Resouces Board told lawmakers on Wednesday that Angat Dam, main source of water in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna and Cavite, has enough water for drinking, irrigation and power during the dry season that officially starts in less than two weeks. “May sapat na water supply mula sa Angat dam.  May projection ang PAGASA (state weather agency) na maigsi ang dry season at makababalik agad sa normal ang dam pagdating ng ulan, (Angat dam has enough water supply.  PAGASA made a project that the dry season will be short and dam will go back to normal as soon as rains come in),” said Sevillo who appeared before a hearing Wednesday by the House Committee on Metro Manila Development.

AIM researchers use AI to address water shortage in Metro Manila

Good News Pilipinas AIM researchers use AI to address water shortage in Metro Manila The AIM-developed tool can be used in forecasting the water supply system of Angat-Ipo-La Mesa Dams and its treatment plants and storage reservoir. Asian Institute of Management (AIM) researchers have used artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to develop a forecasting model that can address water shortage in Metro Manila. The AIM researchers, led by Dr. Christopher Monterola under the AIM-Analytics, Computing, and Complex Systems Laboratory (ACCeSs), developed a simulation modeling software to enhance Manila Water Company’s (MWC) capability in forecasting the water supply system of Angat-Ipo-La Mesa Dams and its treatment plants and storage reservoir.

(JANSEN ROMERO / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said one gate of Angat Dam will be opened at 0.5 meters at 2 p.m. A total discharge of 60 cubic meters per second is expected. Around 11 a.m., PAGASA monitored the water level of Angat Dam at 213.28 meters, above the dam’s normal high water level at 212 meters. Residents living in low-lying areas near Angat River, particularly in Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, and Plaridel, were advised to take precautionary measures in case downstream flooding occurs. Most of the water discharged from Angat Dam flows into the Ipo Dam, which has a current water level of 100.25 meters but is still below its 101-meter spilling level.
