ST CHARLES, Mo. A hiker mistaken for a turkey was accidentally shot in the chest Saturday afternoon by a hunter while using a popular St. Charles County trail, police said.
St. Charles County police said officers responded to the August A. Busch Memorial and Weldon Spring Conservation Area on Highway 94 just before 12:30 p.m. after dispatchers received a call that the man had been shot.

A man was hiking on a trail in Missouri when a hunter accidentally mistook him for a turkey and shot him in the chest.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Lewis and Clark Trail at the August A. Busch Memorial and Weldon Spring Conservation Area in St. Charles County, and left the hiker in serious condition.
KSDK News reports how the Missouri Department of Conservation was holding a turkey hunt during this time. The hunt was scheduled to last until 1 p.m., and signs notifying passersby of the event were reportedly posted throughout the area.
