EFCC arrests ex- Akwa Ibom attorney-general | Premium Times Nigeria

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Uwemedimo Nwoko, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Akwa Ibom State. He was arrested on Tuesday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, sources familiar with the matter told this medium. When contacted, the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest to our correspondent. “Yes, the story is true he (Mr Nwoko) has been arrested,” Mr Uwujaren said. Asked for further details about the arrest, he said, “I do not have information on that.” Ex-NBA president’s connection The EFCC had named Mr Nwoko as an accomplice in the alleged N1.4 billion money laundering charges filed against Paul Usoro, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at the Federal High Court in Abuja in 2018.

CSO writes A-Ibom CP over prolonged incarceration of widow, son

By Chioma Onuegbu A Civil Social Organization, COMMPART Foundation for Justice and Peace Building has written to Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr Andrew Amiengheme, demanding the unconditional release from detention one Mrs. Naomi Ebong, a widow and her son, Kufre Ebong accused of killing one Mr. Aniekan Udoh. The Executive Director of the Organisation, Mr Saviour Akpan in the letter dated, February 26, and sent to the CP on March 1, 2021, stated that the duo detained in police custody since February 10, 2021, should have been either released on bail to a reliable surety pending conclusion of investigation or charged to court.
