Burlington received no refugees from 2016 to 2019.
During that same period, North Carolina received 33,302 refugees. Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh and Highpoint top the list of cities and towns with the most refugees resettled.
Majority of those resettled in North Carolina during that period are from Asia with Myanmar topping the list at 9,521. About 4000 Vietnamese have settled since then followed by Bhutan 3,563.
Of the 41 who were resettled in Burlington 29 are from Iran, six are from Iraq and three were from Liberia and Vietnam each.
President Biden has promised to raise the cap on refugee admissions in 2021 to 62,500 a figure far less than his campaign promise, 125,000.

WASHINGTON – Both sides agree on one thing about President Joe Biden’s decision to raise this year’s cap on refugee admissions from a historic low of 15,000 to as many as 62,500.
The U.S. is not going to come close to hitting that new ceiling.

Washington– The Biden administration on Monday raised the annual ceiling for new refugees allowed into the US to 62,500, after its decision last month to keep the number at the level set by the previous administration caused backlash.
The new number, effective for fiscal year 2021 that ends on September 30, marked an increase from the 15,000 cap set by the Donald Trump administration for the same 12-month period, the Xinhua news agency reported.
“This erases the historically low number set by the previous administration of 15,000, which did not reflect America’s values as a nation that welcomes and supports refugees,” President Joe Biden said in a statement.

Washington, May 4 : US President Joe Biden has raised the cap for refugee admissions into the country to 62,500, in a U-turn that more than quadruples the limit set by his predecessor Donald Trump.
The number announced on Monday was still short of the 125,000 Biden promised during his presidential campaign, though he said he intended to set that as the goal for next year, reports dpa news agency.
